Over the years, we have repeatedly heard from our business and community leaders that they need a more effective way of communicating and working together. Collaboration and mutual support are often identified as key for attracting visitors, creating an environment within which new and existing businesses can thrive and for the continued development in the region. What could this look like in practice? And what makes sense for us here in this region?
Working together, the Towns of Carbonear and Harbour Grace are seeking your ideas and input on how to address these questions and to develop the supports needed for effective collaboration. To help with this process, we have engaged Chris Paterson and Bojan Fürst of Civic Matters NL.
Chris and Bojan will be facilitating a series of sessions over the coming 3 months. These sessions will combine opportunities to share your ideas and to hear about different approaches other places have taken. The process will culminate with discussions of a “best fit” approach for strengthening communication and collaboration among community and business stakeholders in the Conception Bay North region.
We invite you to participate in one of our initial discussions:
• Tuesday, April 29, 12 – 1:30 p.m. in the CBN Regional Community Centre at 256 Water Street in Carbonear
• Wednesday, May 7, 5 – 6:30 p.m. at the Multipurpose Room at the Danny Cleary Harbour Grace Community Centre in Harbour Grace
A light meal will be offered at each session followed by discussions around the following questions:
• What opportunities do you see for the region that would benefit from stronger mechanisms for communication, coordination and/or collaboration?
• If you were to develop some type of association or network in the region, what benefits would it need to provide for you to see value in participating in it?
• What have you seen working in other places that you think we could try here?
