Update on Town’s Main Water Supply (Jan. 28, 2026, 4:30 p.m.)
Samples have been taken from several places in the affected area. We are waiting for the results and will inform residents as soon as they are received.
NL Health Services has provided us with some advice until the matter is resolved.
All food and drinks should be made with water that is known to be safe (such as bottled water) until test results are returned.
If there is no detectable smell of fuel in the water, then necessary household uses are safe but should be kept to only necessary until the sample results are returned. Such household uses include:
- Washing clothing, dishes and cleaning.
- Short showers or bathing with the bathroom fan on (or window cracked) would also be ok.
- Flushing toilets, etc., is fine.
If there is a fuel smell in the water, then the bathroom (for example) should be ventilated, and the taps should be allowed to run until the smell is undetectable. An outside tap could be used to flush the home’s plumbing, but be mindful of where the water is going. Avoid wells or water courses. Once there is no fuel smell, flush all of the other taps in the home.
