Notice of By-Election
The Town of Harbour Grace will be holding a By-Election to fill one vacant seat on council on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Nomination Day will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Council Office, 112 Water Street.
Nominations shall be in writing and state the name and civic address of the candidate and shall be signed by the proposer and seconder both of whom shall be present together with the candidate who shall sign also signifying their acceptance. In the event a candidate cannot be present for their nomination, their proposer and seconder can complete the required form.
Candidates shall at the time of the nomination, deposit with the Returning Officer, the non-refundable sum of:
- Towns/Regions: $10.00 (non-refundable).
A person is qualified to be nominated as a candidate for councillor who is:
- a qualified voter in the municipality in which the person is seeking nomination,
- not in arrears of taxes or other charges payable to the municipality,
- ordinarily a resident in the municipality, or in an area that on election day is part of the municipality, for at least 30 days before the commencement of the nomination period, and
- not otherwise disqualified under the Municipal Elections Act.

All eligible voters are encouraged to participate.
