Harbour Grace RCMP recovers iconic Amelia Earhart statue reported stolen earlier this year
On Friday, the beloved statue of Amelia Earhart, which was reported stolen in April 2025, was recovered by Harbour Grace RCMP and returned to the town.
On August 8, Harbour Grace RCMP responded to a public tip reporting that the statue was located in a wooded area near Heart’s Content. Officers travelled to the location and found the statue, which had been cut into smaller pieces. All pieces of the statue were accounted for, and were transported to the Town of Harbour Grace, where police were met by Mayor Don Coombs.
“We are thrilled to welcome Amelia home to Harbour Grace, and appreciate the public’s assistance in finding this iconic statue.” said Coombs. “On behalf of our town, I want to extend our sincere thanks to the RCMP for helping to return her. This statue is an essential part of our history and we look forward to returning her to the Spirit of Harbour Grace Park, where she belongs.”
While Amelia has been recovered and returned, Harbour Grace RCMP continue to investigate the theft of the statue and its neighbouring plaques from Spirit of Harbour Grace Municipal Park.
